Wakame seaweed, also known as Undaria is a popular edible seaweed, commonly added to delicious, hearty soups, like Miso soup. It has a unique, subtle flavour and is silken to touch when moist. If you are vegetarian or vegan, this is one sea vegetable you will grow to love as a source of wonderful array of micronutrients, minerals and trace elements most land vegetables would find hard to match! It’s gluten free and each serving offers an excellent iodine and a source of magnesium!
You may notice a fine white powder on Pacific Harvest’s wakame leaf. Our seaweeds are wild harvested and air dried to preserve the natural mineral integrity in seaweed. The white powder is glutamine, a naturally occuring amino acid which is in all seaweeds, and is not to be mistaken as mould. Our New Zealand harvested wakame is available in multiple options:
Wild Wakame leaves: 20g and 80g box (NZ harvested)
Wild Wakame flakes*: 30g jar, 90g refill box (NZ harvested)
* awarded a silver medal in the Outstanding NZ Food Producer Awards 2023
